Designed by architect Rosario Candela between 1929 and 1930, 133 East 80th Street is a luxury apartment building located in New York City's Upper East Side that is notable for both its architect and architecture. Incorporating elements from both the French Gothic and Tudor Revival styles, 133 East 80th Street also boasts the architect's Classically-inspired floor plans which embodied a seamless segregation of public, private and service spaces. Emboldened by Candela's architectural legacy, its cooperative board commissioned Gregory Dietrich Preservation to list the property on the National Register of Historic Places. GDP's work on behalf of the client consisted of two parts: the submission of a Request for Evaluation to the state historic preservation office for an eligibility determination, and the completion of a National Register Nomination for listing. As a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 133 East 80th Street has joined the canon of Candela buildings that have been formally recognized for their enduring contributions to the development of the apartment house layout and the New York City skyline.
